PCI
The Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) has recently issued a revised circular regarding the key changes for pharmacy institutions that applied for approval for the academic year 2025-26.
The PCI has set a staff-to-student ratio of 1:20 for Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm) programs for both theory and practical classes.
Key Changes in the Circular:
Staff requirement:
The minimum staff requirements for B.Pharm courses have been revised. For example, now a minimum of 12 faculty members (including professors, associate professors, and assistant professors) is needed for the B.Pharm. program with 60 students.
This is a reduction from the previous requirement of 15.
Application Deadline:
The PCI appeals to the pharmacy institutions for submitting their applications quickly to avoid any server workload near the deadline.
Application Process:
Now, all the applications from the pharmacy institutions will be entertained through the online portal of PCI.
All the pharmacy institutions can apply for various services, which include approval of courses, an increase in admissions, and any change in institutional details.
Documents required:
B.Pharm: The required documents are: consent of affiliation from the examining authority and a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the state government or any other equivalent document.
D.Pharm, Pharm.D., and Pharm.D. (Post Baccalaureate): The required documents are: consent of affiliation and an MoU with a 300-bed hospital (for Pharm.D. programs).
Admission Limits: The PCI has set admission limits for each program, e.g., 60 seats for D.Pharm. and 60/100 for B.Pharm.
Prior approval is required from both the PCI and the examining authority for any increase in admissions.
Fee: Pharmacy Institutions have to pay Pharmacy Education Regulatory Charges (PERC) along with applicable GST while processing the application.
New pharmacy institutions have to pay a registration fee of Rs. 10,000.
