Pharmexcil: 12 members elected for Committee of Administration

As per the election results announced by the council, Bhavin Mukund Mehta, Nipun Jain, Kamlesh C Patel, AR Venkatesh have been elected under SSI no limit category.

The Pharmaceutical Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmexcil) has elected 12 members from various industries as members for its Committee of Administration (COA) for which an online election was held in December 2020.

According to G Seetharam Reddy, additional director general of foreign trade (ADGFT), who presided as returning officer for the election, as many as 12 members from various categories of pharma and allied industries have been declared elected as members of COA, Pharmexcil.

Earlier in November last year, the council had released a notification inviting members from various pharma and allied companies to participate in the elections for filling up of 15 vacant seats for Pharmexcil’s COA and held elections during December first week.

As part of this, nominations from the members of pharma companies were invited under various categories based on their size and minimum average of cumulative export value of turnovers during the past 3 years.

The Council announced 4 vacancies under the small scale industries (SSI) with no export value limit, under the non-SSI category, the council had invited nominations for a total of 3 seats, of which 1 seat was allocated to firms having an average turnover between Rs. 100-500 crore, one seat for the firms having a turnover between Rs. 500-1,000 crore and one seat for member companies having an average turnover exceeding above Rs. 1,000 crore.

The Council had also allocated 4 seats under status holder category, while one seat under the Merchant Exporters category. Similarly, nominations for one seat was also allocated to firms from R&D/clinical research organizations/and biotechnology organizations.

Under herbal category, the council had allocated one seat for member from Herbal/Ayurveda/Unani firms while one seat was given to member companies involved in the export of excipients, nutraceuticals, surgical, medical devises, diagnostic, pharma packaging and other pharmaceutical firms.

However, after the election results are announced, the council could elect 12 out of 15 members that have gone for elections through online electronic voting process.

As per the election results announced by the council, Bhavin Mukund Mehta, director of Kilitch Drugs, Nipun Jain from Pharmchem, Kamlesh C Patel, managing director of West Coast Pharmaceuticals and AR Venkatesh, CEO of global pharma healthcare have been elected under SSI no limit category.

Under the non-SSI Rs. 100-500 category, Desh Deepak Mishra, executive director from Shalina Labs and Satish Waman Wagh, chairman of Supriya Life Sciences have got equal votes and got tied up, however, a final decision will be taken by the council after taking into consideration other aspects as per the constitution of the council.

The two seats under Non-SSI of Rs. 500-1000 crore category have been filled up by Ajit Singh, chairman of ACG Associates Capsules and by Dr C Satyanarayana, CEO of Laurus Labs.

Under Status Holders category with an export value above Rs. 20 crore, Bharat Desi, managing director of Bharat Parenterals has been elected, similarly the two vacant seats under the status holders Rs. 100-500 crore category  have been filled up by Dodda VVS Reddy, director of Nosch labs and SV Veramani, CMD of Fourrts India labs.

In addition to the above, Kamlesh Premchand Shah, from M.T Madon Exports has been elected under merchant exporters above Rs. 20 crore category, while Siddharth Daga, executive director of Vins Bio Products is elected for COA under R&D/CRO/Biotech category.

AVPS Chakravarthy, CEO&MD of Ecobliss has been elected as member of Pharmexcil’s COA under others no limit category. However, two seats one each under Herbals/Ayurveda/Unani and Status Holders Rs. 500-1000 crore category are left vacant due to non availability of members. Very soon the council is expected to fill up these vacant posts by adhering to the rules and regulations of the council.
