New Delhi: Foreign medical graduates with incomplete internships due to compelling situations such as pandemics and war can now apply to complete the remaining part of their internships in India, provided they clear the Foreign Medical Graduates Examination, a screening test, before submitting their applications, the National Medical Commission (NMC) said.
This will help many Indian medical students from Ukraine who had to return even as they were on the verge of completing their MBBS studies.
The Center and NMC were discussing modalities to place these students in Indian medical colleges.
While asking state medical councils to process such applications, the medical education regulator said such “candidates must have cleared FMGE before applying for completion of internship in India“.
NMC has also decided to issue detailed guidelines and process required to be followed by the state medic-al councils for grant of registration of FMGs till further instructions from the Commission or implementation of exit examination.
Medical students pursuing medicine from foreign universities have to clear FMGE, the screening test.
Once they clear, they are equal to any other Indian medical graduate for further practice and employment as a medical doctor in India.
