Hyderabad: Pharma major Abbott India Limited recalled an entire batch of Thyronorm tablets. The batch was sent to Madhya Pradesh and Telangana.
The batch has been wrongly labelled with a lesser dose, compared to what it actually contains. The high dosage can cause serious reactions if taken.
“Attention of the general public is drawn to the fact that Abbott India Limited has issued a voluntary recall of one batch of Thyronorm tablets (Thyroxine Sodium) of Batch No. AEJ0713, manufacturing date of March 2023.
This is due to the labelling error in a small percentage of bottles from this batch which have been mislabled with the dose strength of 25 mcg, whereas the bottle contain 88 mcg tablets,” the firm said in a public notice.
AdvtOverdose of this drug could cause nervousness, insomnia, mild tremors in hand, tachycardia, mild elevation in body temperature, blood pressure elevation and diarrhoea.
In extreme cases, it could lead to coma, psychosis and even myocardial infraction in elderly patients, said experts.
The pharma company has urged citizens in these two states, who have recently purchased Thyronorm (batch no AEJ0713, manufacturing March 2023 and expiry date of February 2025) to return the bottles to the chemist or notify the company on email ID: webmasterindia@abbott.com.
