A court in Gurugram awarded three-year imprisonment to a person in connection with serving Hookah laced with nicotine in his night club on Wednesday, seven years after they were booked.

District and Sessions court of Gurugram awarded three-year imprisonment to a person in connection with serving Hookah laced with nicotine in his night club, seven years after they were booked.

The incident happened in 2013. While announcing the judgment, sessions judge MM Dhonchak said that accused Rohit Kumar, a resident of Gurugram, was held guilty for violation of various sections of the Drug and Cosmetics Act.

Rohit was the owner of night club ‘Coffee Bar and Lounge‘, located in Golf Course Road, Gurugram.

The raid was conducted by a team of FDA Haryana, headed by the erstwhile Pooja Chaudhary and Amandeep Chauhan, Drug Control Officer of Gurugram and Rewari districts respectively, in 2013.

During the raid, the team had found 10 flavours of Hookah inside the premises of the night club, which served Hookah to guests of different age groups.

“We collected 5 Hookah molasses samples and sent them to lab.

Two samples were positive. They contained 0.5 per cent nicotine which is 240 mg of 50 grams in every packet.

The samples were taken in the presence of the accused, who had earlier claimed that the Hookahs served to guests were completely nicotine free,” said Amandeep Chauhan, adding that they have to pay a fine of Rs 1 lakh fine too.
