The Gujarat Food and Drug Control Administration (FDCA) has issued fresh licenses to 814 companies between April 1, 2020 and March 31, 2021.
As per the data, the fresh licenses issued to 532 allopathic companies, 76 ayurvedic companies, 205 cosmetics companies and 1 homeopathic company.
Gujarat FDCA also granted fresh plan approved for 371 companies including 230 cosmetics companies, 23 medical oxygen companies, 18 bulk drugs companies, 22 formulation companies and 78 ayurvedic companies for the year 2020-21.
“In spite of Covid pandemic, the pharmaceutical growth is on the rising trend and has been continuing,” stated Gujarat FDCA Commissioner Dr H G Koshia.
Gujarat FDCA also issued 3,364 test licenses between April 1, 2020 and March 31, 2021.
Test licence is issued for the purpose of examination, test or analysis of a drug in small quantities which is otherwise prohibited under Section 10 of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and Rules, 1945.
Gujarat FDCA issued licenses to total 610 pharmaceutical companies between April 1, 2020 and February 9, 2021 which include 312 pharmaceutical companies, 23 medical oxygen companies including 35 allopathic sanitizer companies under the Drugs and Cosmetics (D&C) Act, 1940.
Earlier, Gujarat FDCA registered a total of five lakh product licenses and 4,349 manufacturing licenses through its first-of -its kind online platform –drug manufacturing license application (DMLA) software in the country.
DMLA enables regulators to deliver efficient paperless services on time for granting product licenses for APIs, single ingredients and formulations under the allopathic segment.
Gujarat currently has 33 per cent of the aggregate share of the pharmaceutical industry.
