Ghaziabad: From January next year, hospitals in UP will have to register themselves under the provisions of the Clinical Establishment Act.
The Indian Medical Association has opposed the move, saying that a large number of smaller hospitals may face difficulty in getting the registrations as fulfilling the norms would be difficult.
The current registration is valid till March of next year.
Under the new rules, all hospitals with more than 30 beds will have to provide all the resources and facilities necessary for their patients.
Along with this, standards developed by the National Council for Clinical Establishments related to biomedical waste, safety, and pollution will also have to be met.
If a hospital does not do so, its registration will not be renewed. The renewal process will start on December 15 and continue till March 31.
Up till now, relaxations in the rules were given to hospitals due to the C-19 pandemic.
With the Act in place, officials said, all hospitals will have to ensure deployment of doctors and paramedical staff as per the standards set by the National Council, besides providing basic resources.
Dr Sunil Tyagi, additional chief medical officer (CMO) of Ghaziabad, said, “The building has to be built according to the norms.” Sewerage treatment plants (STP) will also have to be installed.
Arrangements will have to be made for the disposal of bio-medical waste.
For registration, the district registration authority will be formed under the chairmanship of DM. Currently, the registration is done at the CMO level.”
IMA-Ghaziabad president Dr RK Garg said, “The registration should continue to be done under the CMO and not the administration.
It will only increase corruption. Moreover, smaller hospitals and nursing homes operating in residential areas will become invalid. Only corporate hospitals will be able to fulfill the norms. We are soon going to start an agitation against it.”
