Punjab, June 7, 2023: In Harike, District Tarn Taran, Punjab, Drug Control Officer (DCO) Harpreet Singh, accompanied by a Medical Officer and a police team, conducted a joint inspection of a quack.

The purpose of the inspection was to ensure compliance with regulations and the possession of a valid drugs license.

During the inspection, it was discovered that the individual under scrutiny, Satnam Singh, failed to produce the required drugs license.

This discrepancy led to the preparation of Form 16, indicating the absence of a valid license.

However, the situation quickly escalated as a crowd gathered at the location, showing support for the quack.

The mob’s hostility intensified as they attacked the inspecting team, endangering their safety. They forcibly seized the drugs that had been confiscated as part of the inspection.

Recognizing the severity of the situation, the team immediately called for police assistance.

The police arrived at the scene promptly and successfully rescued the inspecting team. However, they were unable to recover the seized drugs and apprehend the accused.

To address this flagrant violation of the law, an FIR is now being registered against the accused individual under Section 22(3) of the Drugs & Cosmetics Act 1940 and Rules 1945 and other relevant provisions of the CrPC.

Section 22(3) reproduced: If any person wilfully obstructs an Inspector in the exercise of the powers conferred upon him by or under this Chapter, 2[or refuses to produce any record, register or other document when so required under clause (cca) of sub- section (1),] he shall be punishable with imprisonment which may extend to three years, or with fine, or with both.]

In response to this incident, the Drugs Inspector Welfare Association Punjab has raised concerns and demanded swift action.

They are advocating for the immediate arrest of the accused person and urging authorities to provide enhanced security for the officer involved in the inspection.
