Glenmark Pharmaceuticals, a leading Indian pharmaceutical company, recently initiated a Class II drug recall of its Carvedilol tablets in the US market.
This drug recall was announced by Glenmark after the detection of N-Nitroso Carvedilol impurity (NNCI-I) levels, and the same was found to exceed the USFDA’s recommended limit.
Carvedilol is a drug that is commonly used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension).
Drug Recall by FDC
In another incident, FDC Ltd., another Indian pharmaceutical company, has initiated a drug recall of a batch of Timolol Maleate ophthalmic solution.
This drug recall was initiated by FDC Ltd. after the detection of a manufacturing defect in which the cap’s spike became lodged in the bottle’s nozzle, which made it difficult to dispense the drug.
Timolol Maleate is a drug commonly used to treat glaucoma.
What is Class II Drug Recall?
It’s important to know that a Class II drug recall indicates a situation where the use of the affected drug may lead to temporary or reversible health consequences.
However, the risk of serious adverse health issues is considerably low.
What Should Consumers Do?
- Glenmark’s Carvedilol: If one has been prescribed Carvedilol tablets, contact your doctor or health provider for guidance on alternative drugs.
- FDC’s Timolol Maleate: If one is using this eye drop and is facing difficulties dispensing the drug, return the drug to your pharmacy for proper disposal.
