As the threat of the fourth wave of C-19 looms large in India, Maharashtra has geared up to strengthen the capacity of Food and Drug Administration (FDA) which is playing a key role in the state’s C-19 management.

As many as 15 assistant commissioners of medicines will shortly be recruited under the auspices of the FDA.

The recruitment of assistant commissioners of medicines will be carried out by the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC).

The commission has invited online applications for the post of assistant commissioner (medicines), food and drug administrative services, Group-A, under the auspices of the FDA, Mumbai.

Those possessing a degree in pharmacy or pharmaceutical chemistry or degree in pharmacology with specialisation in clinical pharmacology or microbiology from a recognised university with experience in the manufacture or testing of drugs or enforcement of the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act for five-year can apply for the post.

Last date for submitting applications is April 10, 2022.

The selection process for the post will be carried out in accordance with the provisions of Pharmacist, Group-B (Admission Rules) 1992 and the rules of procedure of the Commission.

FDA has 66 posts of assistant commissioners (drugs) in the state but 35 are vacant. Recruitments could not take place for years as selection processes were mired in controversies and litigations. The last full-fledged recruitment was carried out by MPSC in 1996-97.

The recruitment of 15 assistant commissioners (drugs) will strengthen the functioning of the FDA and help the state manage C-19 situation in an effective manner.

After a few months’ respites, a new sub-variant of the Omicron virus has led to a spike in the C-19 cases in parts of Europe and Asia including India. In wake of the current situation, the Maharashtra government has already issued an alert in the state urging people to follow C-19 protocol when stepping out. The state was the worst hit during the third wave.
