Telangana DCA

In a significant crackdown on the illicit drug trade, drug control officials of Telangana Drug Control Administration (Telangana DCA) have unearthed a clandestine operation run by Aspen Biopharma.

The company was found to be illegally manufacturing and storing bulk drugs worth a staggering one crore rupees.

Habitual Offender at the Helm

The mastermind behind this operation, Kadari Sateesh Reddy, the owner of Aspen Biopharma, is no stranger to the law.

With a history of drug-related offenses, Reddy has been a thorn in the side of the Drug Control Administration (DCA) for some time.

This time, however, the authorities have managed to catch him red-handed.

Operating without a valid license, Reddy’s godown in Muduchintalpally Village, Medchal-Malkajgiri District, served as a hub for the illegal drug manufacturing activities.

A Dangerous Arsenal

The seized drugs included a wide range of active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), such as:

  • Anti-cancer drugs: Pazopanib, Palbociclib, Nilotinib, Docetaxel, Gemcitabine
  • Antiviral drugs: Tenofovir
  • Antifungal drugs: Sertaconazole, Posaconazole
  • Anticoagulants: Heparin sodium
  • Antidepressants: Sertraline hydrochloride
  • Other drugs: Misoprostol, Darifenacin, Amisulpride, Losartan, Terazosin, Darunavir, Ropinirole, Daptomycin, Ibrutinib, Levetiracetam, Ritonavir, Rivastigmine tartrate

These drugs, worth millions of rupees, were found in suspicious conditions, packaged in simple LDPE bags without proper labeling or manufacturing details.

This lack of transparency is a clear indication of the illegal nature of the operation.

GMP

The production of drugs outside regulated facilities poses a grave threat to public health.

Without adhering to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), these illegally manufactured drugs may contain impurities, contaminants, or incorrect dosages, leading to severe health consequences for unsuspecting patients.

GMP is a stringent set of guidelines that ensure the quality, safety, and efficacy of drugs.

By operating without a license and disregarding GMP, Aspen Biopharma has put countless lives at risk.

The Telangana DCA is committed to safeguarding public health by cracking down on such illegal activities and ensuring that only quality drugs reach the market.

The Raid and the Team

The raid was a joint operation conducted by the drug control officials and the prohibition and excise department.

The team, led by Anjum Abida, Assistant Director, Shameerpet, successfully seized the illegal drugs and brought the operation to a halt.

This successful raid is a testament to the unwavering commitment of the drug control authorities Telangana DCA to protect public health and uphold the law.
