IMPHAL: A team of Narcotic and Affairs of Border (NAB) of Manipur police on Saturday busted a drug factory in Thoubal district.
The NAB team seized a large quantity of morphine products at various stage of production including 25.5 kg of suspected Brown Sugar.
Police said that two persons, identified as Md Jane Alam (30) and Md Sadam Hussain (29), both hailing from Lilong Sangomsang of Thoubal district, were also arrested in connection with the matter. The arrested persons along with the seized items were paraded before the media at NAB office in Imphal.
Besides the 25.5 kg of suspected Brown Sugar, other items seized during the operation were 145 litres of concentrated morphine solution, two kg of ammonium chloride, nine kg of lime, one wooden pressing machine and one weighing machine.
NAB SP W Basu told the reporters that the drug factory was found running at Sangomsang village of Waithou area in Thoubal district.
The operation launched by a NAB team led by its additional SP Th Brinda under his supervision this morning was assisted by members of the Lilong based voluntary organisations – ANJUMAN and Islah_E Muaasgrah.
Basu claimed the factory alleged manufacturing of Brown Sugar was busted after a careful surveillance of the suspect and his activities over a period of time.
Preliminary finding of forensic science laboratory of state police has indicated presence of morphine in all the samples seized from the raid.
A case has been registered at NAB police station, the SP added.
