HM directs to issues notice to Blood Bank

Chandigarh: Taking note of the contraventions of norms by a private blood bank here, Punjab health minister Balbir Singh Sidhu ordered issuance of a show-cause notice to Prolife Hospitals, where the facility was being run.

The blood bank has been directed to close its operations till further orders.

The team, led by zonal licensing authority (drugs), Ludhiana, offficer Kulwinder Singh and drugs controller officer Rupinder Kaur, also took 37 double layered blood collection bags into custody.

These had expired and were meant for collecting blood. Besides, no entry of these bags was found in the stock register.

The official spokesperson of the department said on the direction of the chief minister, the health minister had formed teams to launch a special drive to conduct an audit of blood bank facilities being operating at both state-run and private hospitals.

The minister asked the department to intensify the ongoing drive.
