API park likely to come up in Una

The state government has decided to send a proposal to the Centre to set up a bulk drug park / API Park in Una district.

BJP leaders from Una, including former state president of the party Satpal Satti and vice-chairman of the state industries development corporation Ram Kumar Sharma had been lobbying for it for long.

Eyeing private land

Earlier, the government was planning to set up the drug park at Nalagarh. Sources here said a meeting of a high-powered committee was held yesterday in which it was decided that the park would be set up in Una district.

The government has proposed to set up the park on 1,400 acres in Haroli. The Industries Department has started eyeing private lands and entered into an agreement to buy 35 acres for the project.

Ram Kumar Sharma thanked Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur and Industries Minister Bikram Thakur for choosing Una for setting up the drug park. He said if the project was cleared, it would bring in an investment of Rs 10,000 crore from the Centre. At present, Una district has an investment of Rs 2,100 crore.

Sources said the Centre had proposed three bulk drug formulation parks in the country. The parks were proposed after the bulk supply from China was interrupted due to the pandemic. The government has proposed to give Rs 1,000 crore each for the setting up of drug parks.
