The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has released the price calculation sheet of proposed retail price of seven drug formulations including for a fixed dose combination for diabetes which has a moving annual total of Rs. 987.24 crore in the market.

The retail price of uncooked bilateral tablet containing glimepiride IP 2 mg + metformin hydrochloride IP (in prolonged release form) 500 mg, manufactured by Pure & Care Healthcare Pvt Ltd and marketed by J B Chemicals & Pharmaceuticals Ltd, has proposed to be Rs. 9.41 per tablet excluding GST, as against a claimed retail price of Rs 13.48 per tablet.

While there are around 17 companies which have one per cent or above market share for the product, the Authority has listed details of 166 brands with the same strength, but different pack size for the formulation. The maximum price considered is Rs. 11.80 per tablet, for Sanofi India’s Amaryl M 2/500 mg, even as the minimum price in the market is Rs. 2.57 for Isryl M from Systopic Laboratories Ltd.

Retail price of bilayered tablet containing telmisartan IP 40 mg + chlorthalidone IP 6.25 mg + metoprolol succinate IP 23.75 mg equivalent to metoprolol tartrate as extended release 25 mg for Ravenbhel Healthcare Pvt Ltd as manufacturer and Eric’s Lifesciences Ltd as marketer.

Ajanta Pharma’s Met XL 3D is the only drug considered by the Authority in this category and the retail price has been proposed at Rs. 9.86 per tablet excluding GST, as against Rs. 13.39 per tablet excluding GST. Ajanta Pharma’s product price is Rs. 8.50 per tablet.

Telmisartan IP 40 mg + chlorthalidone IP 12.5 mg + metoprolol succinate IP 47.50 mg equivalent to metoprolol tartrate (as extended release) 50 mg manufactured by Ravenbhel Healthcare Pvt Ltd and marketed by Micro Labs Ltd, is proposed with a retail price of Rs. 13.97 per tablet as against the claimed retail price of Rs. 15.65 per tablet excluding GST. Ajanta Pharma’s Met XL 3D, the only drug considered, has a retail price of Rs. 12.04 per tablet.

Fixed dose combination of chlorthalidone IP 12.50 mg + amlodipine besylate IP equivalent to amlodipine 5 mg + telmisartan IP 40 mg manufactured by Akums Drugs & Pharmaceuticals Ltd and marketed by Mankind Pharma, has been proposed with retail price of Rs. 9.95 per tablet excluding GST, as against the claimed retail price of Rs. 12 per tablet excluding GST. The proposed price is 17.18 per cent lower compared to the highest priced product, which is Telmed Act from Medley Pharmaceuticals at Rs. 10.36 per tablet.

USV Pvt Ltd’s combination drug calcium 500 mg + cholecalciferol IP 2000 IU + titanium dioxide IP, has been proposed for a retail price of Rs. 12.64 per tablet excluding GST, by the price regulator, as against claimed retail price of Rs. 20.09 per tablet. The proposed price is 15.24 per cent lower than the highest priced tablet Collacium D3 from Auftritt Healthcare Pvt Ltd, which is priced at Rs. 12.86 per tablet.
