Download Pharmacy Act 1948 and many more: The Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) has further wanted the pharmacy colleges in the country to comply with its directives with respect to salary payments to teachers in order to avoid penal actions as per the Pharmacy Act 1948 and Minimum Qualifications for Teachers in Pharmacy Institutions Regulations 2014 for non-compliance with its direction.
In an advisory issued by the national education regulatory on November 10, asking the institutions to sort out and clear the issues immediately, the council has reminded the college management about the previous advisories it issued on various occasions on the same matter.
Still, PCI is receiving complaints from teachers and their associations from across the country, seeking the council’s intervention in the matter.
The salary cut in pharmacy institutions started in March 2020, when the first lockdown was imposed because of the spread of C-19 in the country.
While some institutions took advantage of the situation to deliberately reduce the salaries of teachers, citing various reasons, some other institutions became incapable of giving full salaries because of the closure of their establishments during the lockdown period.
However, the PCI had issued one advisory on April 20, 2020, directing all the institutions to pay salaries to the staff as per the directions of the central and state governments, who had issued various orders regarding salary payments to all private institutions and companies during the first lockdown period.
Furthermore, the council issued its second advisory on July 9 last year, warning the college management of the withdrawal of approvals if they failed to disburse payments on-time.
Again, on August 24, 2020, and May 4 this year, the education regulator of pharmacy issued circulars wanting the same thing from the college authorities. But, according to teachers, only a few institutions complied with the directions of the council.
A lot of colleges are not paying salaries regularly to the faculty members who have all had more than 15 or 20 years of service in their institutions. The Association of Pharmacy Teachers of India (APTI) has several times raised the issue before the PCI and institutional management.
Finally, with severe criticism, the PCI has now wanted the institutions to solve the salary issue immediately, otherwise it will resort to punitive actions as per the Pharmacy Act 1948 and the Minimum Qualifications for Teachers in Pharmacy Institutions Regulations 2014.
