Ghaziabad: The government laboratory in Lucknow has deemed substandard a large quantity of cancer drugs that the Delhi Police crime branch seized during a raid on a godown in Loni’s Tronica City in November of last year.
Two of the four samples sent for tests also failed to comply with the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, Ghaziabad drugs inspector Ashutosh Mishra said.
Following the raid on the premises in Tronica City on November 15, 2022, six people were detained for running the interstate syndicate that produced and supplied phony and counterfeit life-saving drugs of well-known international brands.
According to police reports from the time, the syndicate used to buy capsules from a business associate and then fill them primarily with starch to create fake medicines.
While a strip of original life-saving drugs costs around Rs 2 lakh, the syndicate sold the spurious drugs to patients for Rs 1.5 lakh in the black market.
“Two samples have failed the drug test while two others were found to be substandard,” Ghaziabad drug inspector Ashutosh Mishra said.
It mentions the medicines were manufactured by Beacon pharmaceuticals Ltd in Bangladesh.
