The former Director of the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA), Goa, retired on Wednesday after making significant contributions to the public health sector.
From Pharma to Public Service
Jyoti Sardesai’s journey into public service was preceded by a successful eight-year stint in the competitive pharmaceutical industry.
Armed with a postgraduate degree in pharmaceutical sciences, she joined the FDA, Goa as a drugs inspector, marking the beginning of a transformative career.
A Life Dedicated to Public Health
Over the course of her 32-year government service, Jyoti Sardesai ascended through the ranks, culminating in her appointment as the Director of FDA, Goa in December 2017.
Her leadership was instrumental in elevating the state’s food safety standards to unprecedented heights.

Under Jyoti Sardesai’s stewardship, the state clinched the top spot in the Food Safety Index compiled by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) for an impressive five consecutive years in the small states category.

Pioneering Woman Leader
Jyoti Sardesai’s contributions extended beyond administrative excellence.
She was honored with the prestigious Neha Shoree Award as the “Best Woman Drug Control Officer” in the country.
Moreover, her expertise was sought by the Government of India, which selected her to be part of a study group visiting Singapore to understand the nation’s advanced food safety practices.
