The Drugs Control Officers’ Inia Welfare Association (DCOIWA) has intensified its appeal to the Karnataka Chief Minister to reconsider the suspension of the State Drugs Controller, Umesh S.
The association, led by its National President G. Koteshwar Rao, has written a formal letter to the Chief Minister, outlining the reasons for their appeal and urging for a fair and just resolution.
Background: The Drug Quality Controversy
The Karnataka State Medical Supplies Corporation Limited (KSMCL) procured IV Ringer Lactate from Paschim Banga Pharmaceuticals.
While some batches were found to be substandard, others were cleared by the Central Drug Laboratory (CDL), Kolkata.
The Role of the Suspended Official
DCOIWA maintains that the suspended official was not directly involved in the procurement, distribution, or quality control processes.
The association emphasizes that the incident was localized to Bellary and that similar reports were not received from other parts of the state.
Additionally, the manufacturer is based in another state, outside the direct jurisdiction of the Karnataka Drugs Controller.
Call for a Joint Investigation
To determine the root cause of the issue, DCOIWA recommends a joint investigation involving state officials, central agencies like the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO), and the concerned state where the drug was manufactured.
Appeal for Reinstatement
The association believes that the suspension is unfair and undermines the official’s contributions to the department.
They have urged for an immediate review of the circumstances leading to the suspension and the reinstatement of the Drugs Controller.
Nationwide Protest Planned
To express solidarity with the suspended official, DCOIWA has observed for a nationwide protest on December 5, 2024, at 11:00 AM. Members have wore black badges as a symbol of their support.
