Nimesulide
In a special move for the welfare of the animals, the government of India has issued a notification vide No. S.O 5633(E) on 30-12-2024 and bans the manufacturing, sale and distribution of Nimesulide and all its formulations for the use in animals.
The said decision of govt of India is effective with immediate effect. Govt has taken this decision in public interest and for the safety of the animals
Why the Ban on Nimesulide?
The govt of India has taken the decision as it discovered some harmful side effects on the animals due to the Nimesulide.

High risk Harm on Animals:
Nimesulide is a drug which is very effective in pain management for humans and in other hand it is very harmful effects on animals.
Studies show many side effects which include:
- It may cause some gastrointestinal troubles like bleeding, inflammation and Ulcers.
- It may cause adverse effect on liver, which may lead to liver dysfunction.
- It may cause kidney issues which may lead to kidney damage.
- Blood disorders are the another side effects which may disturb blood clotting mechanisms.

The government of India is of the opinion that there are many safer options available for the pain management in animals.
Veterinarians are having the more options of the safe medications and treatments which can more effective in the pain management in the animals without harming the health of the animals.
