Hyderabad: Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) president Montu Kumar M. Patel on Wednesday said that the council is against e-selling of medicines.
On the sidelines of a national seminar on the ‘Role of Pharmacy Educators, Impact on Healthcare’ organized by the Telangana Pharmacy Colleges Management Association, Patel said:
“A pharmacist has the responsibility to counsel the patient, explain side-effects of a particular drug, among other things. How can this be done online? We are against e-selling of medicines and it is not legal to do so.”
He said that not many developed countries have this provision, especially for first consultation. He was talking about advertising offers in medicine. He said they have cancelled the registration of a few pharmacists in Gujarat for violating PCI norms.
