Approximately 50 injured individuals were transported to various hospitals in Anakapalle and Atchutapuram, while 13 others were successfully rescued from the burning facility.
Tragedy Strikes Again
This is not the first time a pharmaceutical plant in the Anakapalle district has been struck by such a horrific incident.
Just last month, a worker was killed and two others injured in a reactor explosion at a chemical factory in the same region.
In June 2023, another reactor explosion at Sahiti Pharma claimed the lives of six people.
Government Response
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and assured that the government would provide support to the affected families.
Escientia Advanced Sciences, a pharmaceutical company specializing in intermediate chemicals and active pharmaceutical ingredients (API), began operations in April 2019 with an investment of Rs 200 crore.
The plant is situated on a 40-acre campus in the Atchutapuram cluster of the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation’s (APIIC) multi-product special economic zone (SEZ).
Investigation
Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire and are taking steps to prevent similar incidents in the future.
As the investigation continues, the full extent of the damage and the impact on the local community remain to be assessed.
