The National Institute for Research in Tuberculosis (NIRT) under the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) will roll out an online course for doctors to manage TB from February 2020 and the adoption of new guidelines in the modern management of TB.

Recently, there have been major developments in the management of TB, particularly in diagnosis besides framing of new guidelines and protocols.

Schedule of online course

The online course for doctors will start from February 1, 2020 and conclude on March 31, 2020.

The online course has been designed keeping in mind the busy schedule of the practicing Physicians.

It will enable doctors to keep themselves abreast of current developments and best clinical practices in the management and control of TB.

NIRT is an internationally recognised institution for tuberculosis (TB) research. It is also a Supranational Reference Laboratory and a WHO Collaborating Centre for TB Research and Training.

Recently, an International Centre for Excellence in Research (ICER) in collaboration with National Institutes of Health (NIH) was established at the Centre.

A part of the US Department of Health and Human Services, NIH is the largest biomedical research agency in the world.

Tuberculosis is a major public health problem in most of the developing world.

India contributes one-fourth of the global burden of TB and an estimated 4.4 lakh lives are lost every year due to this illness in India.

National TB Pragramme

The Revised National TB Control Programme (RNTCP) of the Government of India offers quality assured diagnosis and treatment free of charge to TB patients.

But more than half of all TB patients seek care preferentially from the private sector.

NIRT has successfully conducted this course three times during August to October 2018, February to April 2019, August to October 2019.

A total of 4792 participants have enrolled. We have received favorable feedback on the course from the participants.

NIRT is now in advanced stage of planning for the fourth run of the course starting in February 2020. MBBS graduates and Medical students are eligible to enroll for the course.

It will be very useful to medical practitioners and undergraduate MBBS students both in public and private sector in their day to day practice.

Academic eligibility for the course is MBBS degree from recognised university or undergraduate MBBS students.

Fee for the online course

This online course is free. However if the participant wishes to get a certificate he / she has to undertake an exam. Exam fee is Rs.1,000.
