The Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) has declared 39 drug samples out of a total of 681 drug samples tested as not of standard quality (NSQ) during the month of June, 2021.
The number is comparatively higher than the previous month, when the number of tests conducted was also lower.
Out of the 681 samples tested during the month, 62 samples came out with standard quality, while 39 samples including certain batch of Amikef – 500 – 2ml from Lupin Ltd (failed in description and particulate matter) and Azilsartan Medoxomil tablets 80 mg from Hetero Labs Ltd, which failed in dissolution of Azilsartan.
Ivermectin tablets 6 mg, the drug that has been in the limelight for its usage in treating Covid-19, manufactured by Maan Pharmaceuticals and Phsychotropics India Ltd were also tested as not of standard.
None of the samples were identified as spurious or misbranded during the month. The drug regulator comes out with the list of drugs, medical devices and cosmetics which are declared not of standard quality / spurious / adulterated or misbranded, every month.
In comparison with June, during the month of May, 2021, the authority has tested 627 samples, out of which 625 samples were tested as of standard quality. The number of samples declared as not of standard quality included 22, of which 21 were legal. Though not the same, but drugs from Hindustan Antibiotics Ltd, Skymap Pharmaceuticals and Terrace Pharmaceuticals among others were declared as not of standard during May and June, shows data.
During the month of April, 2021, the CDSCO has conducted tests on 931 samples, of which 908 were declared as of standard quality, while 23, including 22 legal, were declared as not of standard.
The test samples were drawn by the zonal and sub zonal offices of CDSCO, and tested in the drug testing laboratories in Kolkata, Mumbai, Chandigarh, and Guwahati.
