Prior to the Pharmacy council election, the Tamil Nadu State Pharmacy Council (TN SPC) is now ready with the electoral roll which will be published next week on the website of the council.

The work for the preparation of the roll (Pharmacy Register 2021) has been completed and it will be published for public reference.

The list contains 104,000 registered pharmacists from across the state, said the registrar of the council.

The office of the council will have the hard copy of the list for the perusal of the pharmacists. All the registered pharmacists can visit the office at Vadapalani and verify the name, serial number and the address, said Dr. Thamizhisai Mozhi, registrar of TN SPC.

The executive committee meeting of the council will be held on Monday and approve the list, accordingly the registrar will publish the list.

The EC will also schedule the election process including fixing the time for sending ballot papers, filing of nominations, withdrawal of nominations, scrutiny by returning officer and return of the ballots.

According to Dr. Mozhi the complete exercise will take more than three months. June 15 is the deadline given for verification of the electoral roll.

She said since more than Rs. 60 lakhs is required for postal charges, the council has appealed to the government to hold the process online from next year onwards. She said the ballot will be sent by registered post only.

But the president of the council J Jayaseelan said he has informed the health secretary of the huge expenses to be incurred for the postal charges and sought permission to conduct the election through online mode this year. He said the council expects a positive response from the government.

This is the 9th council election of the TN SPC and it is conducted after a period of 12 years. The reason for the long gap is due to a court case filed by an association of pharmacists alleging malpractices in the election held in 2009.
