Misleading Drug Advertisements
The Drugs Control Administration Telangana (DCA Telangana) has conducted several raids and took action regarding the Misleading Drug Advertisements.
Details of two cases:
Advertisement of Konda Pindi Churnam: This is an Ayurvedic medicine which was manufactured by Devi Naturals in LB Nagar.
The medicines found to claim treating kidney stone, which come under Misleading Drug Advertisements.
Advertisement of P Mycetin Ointment: This is an Allopathic drug, was manufactured by Pharma Corp. Inc (P) Ltd.
The drug was recovered from Nizamabad and it was found claiming of treatment of eye infections, which comes under Misleading Drug Advertisements.
Contravention:
These types of misleading drug advertisements contravene the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954 (DMROA).
The drug advertisement claiming the treatment of specific diseases, including the above, are prohibited under DPROA.
Why harmful:
Misleading drug advertisements always make the patients falsely hopeful, furthermore it may lead to delaying in the treatment of the patients, which may cause the serious issues of the health.
Using the ineffective drugs which are not even proven for the said diseases may cause serious health issues.
Erosion of Public Trust: This type of practices may loose the trust of the public towards the pharma companies as well as healthcare system.
Raid conducted by:
The said aids were conducted by P. Santosh, Drugs Inspector, Mehdipatnam and V. Srikanth, Drugs Inspector, Nizamabad Urban.
Investigation:
The DCA Telangana will conduct further investigations in details and will take legal action against the offenders including manufacturers of the drugs and distributors involved in these offences.

DMROA is the Drugs and Magic Remedies (Objectionable Advertisements) Act, 1954. Advertisement of drugs for the treatment of certain diseases are prohibited under this act.
