Intoxicating Tablets
A dramatic scene unfolded at JR Pharma, a pharmaceutical company located in the State Industrial Development Corporation of Uttarakhand (SIDCUL) area of Haridwar, as a team from Chandigarh Narcotic, accompanied by local police and Drug Inspector Anita Bharti, conducted a raid and seized a massive consignment of intoxicating drugs.
The operation, which took place on Wednesday, sent shockwaves through the industrial area, raising serious concerns about the proliferation of illicit drug manufacturing.
From Smugglers’ Confession to Pharma Factory Raid
The raid was the culmination of an investigation that began with the recent arrest of seven smugglers in Chandigarh.
60,000 intoxicating tablets were recovered from the possession of these people.
During interrogation, they disclosed that they had acquired these drugs from JR Pharma in Haridwar.
Chandigarh Narcotics team directly reached to the company after getting this important tip.
Uncovering the Illicit Operation
The action by the team at JR Pharma confirmed the smugglers’ claims.
The team found that the intoxicating drugs were being manufactured at the company for drug abuse.
Approximately 2.5 lakh intoxicating tablets were recovered and seized during the operation.
Two employees of the company were immediately detained for questioning, and the investigation is ongoing.
Another Company Under Scrutiny
The investigation didn’t stop at JR Pharma.
Authorities have come to know that another company within SIDCUL is also suspected of involvement in this illegally manufacturing the intoxicating drugs.
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) team is also investigating at this second location, which may unearth another large network responsible for illegally manufacturing and distributing the intoxicating drugs.
The owner of JR Pharma is reportedly absconding, and authorities are searching for him.
A History of Violations: JR Pharma’s Production Already Stopped
Adding another layer of complexity to the case, it has come to light that JR Pharma’s production had already been stopped by the drug department in June 2024.
Drug Inspector Anita Bharti confirmed this information, stating that the company’s production was officially prohibited several months prior to the raid.
Now, the drug department is in the process of canceling the manufacturing license of the company.
Ongoing Investigation
The drug department is actively investigating the matter.
The drug department has started to obtain the details of the illegal operation by the pharma company, e.g., the quantity of drugs produced after the stop production and the distribution channels used to supply these intoxicating drugs to other states.
A formal case will be registered against the company owner, and all those involved in this illicit activity will face the full force of the law.
