MTP Kit
Sonepat, Haryana: The unregistered clinic in Kharkhoda, Sonepat, Shri Shyam Multi Specialty Hospital, selling MTP kit illegally, was raided by the joint task force of the Food and Drugs Administration Haryana (FDA Haryana), comprising Sandeep Hooda, Drugs Control Officer (DCO), Sonepat-I; Munshi Ram, Drugs Control Officer (DCO), Sonepat-II; and officials from the Civil Surgeon’s office, Dr. Nitin, Dr. Dhiraj, and Dr. Garima, in Sonepat on Monday, April 28, 2025.
Decoy operation in Buying MTP Kit
As mentioned by Sandeep Hooda, secret information to the FDA Haryana prompted action.
To verify the claim, a decoy was sent to the unregistered clinic to request a Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Kit.
The decoy successfully purchased the kit from the Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) working at the clinic for ₹1,000.
The recording of the transaction suggested that the operations were in line with the claims andweres engaged in a transaction involving abortion drugs.
Decoy Signals the team
After receiving a signal from the decoy, the joint task force conducted a raid at Shri Shyam Multi Specialty Hospital.
In addition to recovering the MTP Kit, the task force also retrieved the money used in the second part of the transaction.
The ANM and the unregistered clinic’s owner were arrested on-site.
FIR Lodged Under MTP Act
According to reports, an FIR was lodged under sections 3, 4, & 5 of the Medical Termination of Pregnancy (MTP) Act.
The MTP Act regulates the means, modes, and various stakeholders involved in pregnancy termination; thus, an unregistered physician engaged in such malevolent acts without following general expectations was a concern.
In addition, the ANM present did not show the licensure for medical practice when asked; thus, the need for investigation stood on whether this was common practice or a spur-of-the-moment decision without much thought.
