Pregabalin

The Food and Drugs Control Administration (FDCA) Gujarat breaks an illegal operation of manufacturing and distributing bulk drug Pregabalin across Gujarat in a noncomplied manner.

Under the guidance of FDCA Gujarat Commissioner Dr. H. G. Koshia, a series of raids in Ahmedabad and Ankleshwar were strategically planned to find and apprehend unlicensed organizations engaged in the manufacturing and distribution of Pregabalin.

Dr. Koshia notes that the state government will continuously try to provide quality medicine to all citizens and thus, will take appropriate action against anyone who attempts to manufacture, sell, or obtain unauthorized substitutes.

This operation is the result of Bharuch, along with Gandhinagar and Ahmedabad, where under the guidance of Y. G. Darji, Deputy Commissioner (Headquarters) of Head Office, Gandhinagar, the officers were tasked to lock horns with Ms. Esteem Enterprise-Ahmedabad and other associated concerns generating bulk drugs without any valid licensing.

Pregabalin API Worth ₹21.50 Lakhs recovered

The teams almost recovered 1000 kg of bulk drug Pregabalin from the various establishments, which was found to be manufactured without any licit activity.

The drug was valued at ₹21.50 Lakhs.

Dr. Koshia informs that a sample of the Pregabalin API has been sent for investigation to ascertain quality.

Franchise Schemes and Other Irregularities Unearthed

As the investigation progressed, other irregularities came to light.

For example, Ahmedabad’s Esteem Enterprise was found selling the API with no permission to operate or engage in such sales; investigators assessed its inventory and determined a sale of 4,300 kg of Pregabalin which was valued at an additional search of its premises and concluded at ₹85 lakhs.

The search operation also traced the masterminds to Axis Pharmachem in Ankleshwar and Iconic Pharmachem in Panoli.

The latter was preparing its drug within its chemical plant; however, it was highlighted that it was doing so without a drug manufacturing license.

Axis Pharmachem was proceeded against for selling Pregabalin from Iconic Pharmachem using its license at a commission; neither party sought permission for such inter-firm sales.

In one such case, almost 1000 kgs of Pregabalin valued at Rs. 21.50 Lakhs was raided from Iconic Pharmachem located at Panoli.

The other branch of Esteem Enterprise, based at Bharuch, was caught selling Pregabalin and some other API chemicals without a valid license to manufacture.

They were also falsifying the test reports—another crime beyond the pharma manufacturing procedure and ethics.

The Bharuch branch seized 35 kgs of Pregabalin.

Disabled Persons’ Intent for Quality Healthcare and Regulatory Action

Dr. H. G. Koshia of FDCA Gujarat ensured that the raiding party sent out a loud-and-clear message to all such manufacturers that any scratch on the pharma supply chain would be an unacceptable blemish for them to have since the consumers deserve access to safe and effective medication.

He maintained that such heinous criminals compromise public health; therefore, India, as a healing state, will send these criminals to jail at all costs.

Investigation still is ongoing to let such drug peddlers know that State Government is keeping its eyes and ears open and doesn’t take any bullshit from these drug addicts.
