MTP Kit

The Food and Drugs Administration, Haryana (FDA Haryana) busts illegal sale of MTP kit in Safidon, District Jind. Decoy operation led to sealing of medical store and FIR lodged against the owner.

  • Dr. Sunil, Medical Officer, Safidon Health Department and
  • Dr. Preeti, Lady Medical Officer, Hatt, Health Department.

FDA Haryana’s Decoy Operation

The joint team of FDA Haryana and Health department arrived on 3rd May 2025 to conduct a decoy operation in search of those illicitly selling Medical Termination of Pregnancy kits (MTP Kits) without required approvals and medical supervision.

They targeted M/s Sharma Medicose, located in the main market of Safidon—where illegal sales of MTP kits were being done.

MTP Kit Dispensed Without prescription

Bodhraj, owner of the medical store, sold the MTP kit to the decoy during the operation without inquiring about a genuine prescription from a Registered Medical Practitioner (RMP) associated with a government-approved MTP Centre.

This emphasizes the need for such precautionary and legal measures, as there are seemingly no safeguards to prevent such reckless disregard for health and safety otherwise, and what chaos could ensue.

No record shown

Post-distribution of the MTP kit; the owner of M/s Sharma Medicose was unable to provide any genuine records regarding the receipt, sale, and distribution of the seized MTP kit.

Meanwhile, an FIR was registered under the MTP Act also, and the Geet Goyal, Drugs Control officer, prepared a report of the inspection.

Furthermore, a separate case will be filed in the court of law under various sections of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act.

Medical store sealed

Based on the findings of the investigation related to the above, to prevent any future commission of such offenses, the licensed premises of M/s Sharma Medicose was sealed under Section 22(1)(d) of the Drugs and Cosmetic Act, 1940 which is to stop medical store activities immediately.

This will prevent any subsequent sale or distribution of these MTP kits from this medical store.

Thus, the actions of the FDA Haryana reflect an understanding of public safety and an intent to prevent any future availability of unethical MTP kits.
