Panaji: The state has submitted a proposal for setting up a medical device park at Verna before the Centre, chief minister Pramod Sawant said on Wednesday.
The moves are in line with the state government’s attempt to make Goa a healthcare hub where medical tourism and the production of healthcare equipment go hand-in-hand.
India’s medical device sector is currently valued at $11 billion, according to Invest in India. Sawant said that four states are in the competition for the park.
Goa has identified approximately 250 acres in Verna industrial estate belonging to the Goa Industrial Development Corporation.
The development cost for the proposed park is estimated at Rs 350 crore. The state expects Rs 100 crore as grant-in-aid from the Centre, which, will be 70% of the cost of the common infrastructure facilities, subject to a maximum of Rs 100 crore.
