The Dental Council of India (DCI) has directed principals and deans of dental colleges across the country to apply for renewal of permission for undergraduate and postgraduate courses.
The DCI issued a notice to dental colleges in this regard on March 8, 2021.
As per provision of the Dental Council of India (Establishment of New Dental Colleges, Opening of New or Higher Course of Study or Training and Increase of Admission Capacity in Dental Colleges Regulations, 2006), the institutions whose renewal for undergraduate / postgraduate course are due, needs to apply for renewal of undergraduate course six months prior to the expiry of the current academic session and six months before the beginning of the next academic session in case of renewal of postgraduate course, stated a notice issued by Alka Mehta, deputy secretary, DCI.
Accordingly, all the dental colleges have been directed to apply to DCI under intimation to government of India without any delay, for the purposes, along with all the requisite documents and fees etc. so as to enable this Council to process the renewal in time as per DCI Regulation, 2006, failing which, the DCI shall neither inspect any college for renewal of bachelor of dental surgery (BDS) / master of dental surgery (MDS) courses in case of non-receipt of application from the concerned dental college in this regard nor the DCI will be responsible for such delay and consequences thereof, said the deputy secretary.

Recently, DCI issued a notice to principals and deans of dental colleges in the country asking them to furnish a certified copy of the accreditation certificate issued by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), to the Council at the earliest.
The principals and deans of dental institutions were twice served with the DCI notice in this regard on August 24, 2020 and October 19, 2020.
As per relevant extract of Dental Council of India (Miscellaneous) Regulations, 2007, accreditation of dental institutions in the country by NAAC is mandatory.
