Download the list of DTAB members: The ministry of health and family welfare has reconstituted the Drugs Technical Advisory Board (DTAB), adding Commissioner of Gujarat Food and Drug Control Administration (FDCA) Dr HG Koshia and Torrent Pharmaceuticals chairman Sudhir Mehta as members vide notification No. S.O. 4326(E) dated 18-10-2021.
The new notification, issued on October 18 reconstitutes the 18-member committee which was last constituted in May, 2018. The DTAB was reconstituted in December 2014, prior to that.
The new DTAB will continue to have the Director General of Health Services, New Delhi, as the ex-officio chairman and Drugs Controller, India (DCGI) as member-secretary of the Board. The other members who will continue in the Board include the directors of Central Drugs Laboratory, Kolkata; Central Research Institute, Kasauli; and Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Bareilly.
The chairman of National Medical Commission, instead of the dismantled Medical Council of India, the president of Pharmacy Council of India, the Director of Central Drug Research Institute, Lucknow, Commissioner of FDA, Madhya Pradesh, will also continue as the members.
Prof. (Dr.) Shailendra Saraf, University Institute of Pharmacy, Pandit Ravishankar Shukla University, Dr Vijay Oza, member (PGMEB), NMC, Dr Jerin Jose Cherian, scientist D, Division of Basic Medical Sciences, ICMR, Dr J A Jayalalitha, national president, Indian Medical Association and Dr T V Narayana, president, Indian Pharmaceutical Association are the other members.
Besides, the Government analyst from the Drugs Testing Laboratory, Bengaluru and Government analyst, Food and Drugs Laboratory, Vadodara will also continue to be the members of the Board, as per the regulations.
Drugs Technical Advisory Board (DTAB): Minutes of meetings
According to the Section 5 in the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940, the nominated and elected members of the Board shall hold office for three years, but shall be eligible for re-nomination and re-election, provided that the person nominated or elected shall hold office for so long as he holds the appointment of the office by virtue of which he was nominated or elected to the Board.
The Board may, subject to the previous approval of the Central Government, make by-laws fixing a quorum and regulating its own procedure and the conduct of all business to be transacted by it.
The Board may constitute sub-committees and may appoint to such sub-committees for such periods, not exceeding three years, or temporarily for the consideration of particular matters, persons who are not members of the Board, says the regulation.
