AMBALA: Police arrested two persons in connection with a case of 3.45kg drug haul in the district.
The accused have been identified as Manoj Kumar, owner of Sanjeev Medical Hall, Mithapur village in Ambala district, and his helper Ashu of Bihta village in Ambala district. Both have been booked under sections 22 (punishment for contravention in relation to psychotropic substances) and 61 (confiscation of goods used for concealing illicit drugs or substances) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Earlier on September 17, a team from Saha police station had recovered 3.45kg tablets from Ashu and a sample of the same was sent for forensic inspection. A daily diary report (DDR) was registered at Saha police station in this regard.
On Sunday, Manoj and Ashu were booked on the basis of the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL), Madhuban, report that had found 3.45 kg lose tablets seized in September 2019 from Ashu contained Tramadol, which is covered under the NDPS Act.
“We have arrested both Manoj and Ashu on Monday evening and on Tuesday they were presented before an Ambala court that has granted one-day police remand of main accused Manoj while his employee Ashu has been sent to 14-day judicial custody,” Saha police station SHO sub-inspector (SI) Chander Bhan said.

“As per the preliminary investigation, it has been revealed by the accused that a supplier based in Saharanpur, UP, delivered the contraband to them. We are working to trace the drug supply chain,” the SHO added.
Meanwhile, in his complaint sub-inspector (SI) Surender stated, “On September 17, 2019, our police team was patrolling near Saha Chowk when we received a tip-off that Ashu of Bihta village, who sold narcotics near Sanjeev Medical Hall in Mithapur village, was dealing at that moment and was carrying a large quantity of drugs with him. Following the due procedure, a checking was conducted and tablets weighing 3.45kg were recovered from Ashu.”
“A sample of 100gm seized tablets was sent to FSL for inspection as these were not containing any markings or wrappers,” the SI added.
“We received the FSL report through the office of DSP Barara on December 11 and the result of analysis mentioned that Tramadol was detected in the sample. The report was presented before Ambala Drugs Control Officer Parveen Kumar on December 14 following which a case was registered against both on December 15,” SI Chander Bhan said.
