Amidst rampant reports of fraudulent activities under the flagship Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY), the Union health ministry has launched a dedicated National Anti-Fraud Unit (NAFU) to detect and take strict action against the offenders in coordination with State Anti-Fraud Units (SAFUs) at state level.
Maximum number frauds have been reported in private hospitals of Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh running the PMJAY scheme, as per the annual report of National Health Authority (NHA), which runs PMJAY.
According to official sources, the health scheme has also registered a whopping 18,681 cases of frauds so far.
As per National Health Authority (NHA), a total of 205 hospitals have been de-empanelled from the scheme. Of which, nearly 60 per cent are from these two large states.

75 hospitals in Maharashtra have been de-empanelled, so far. This number stands at 45 for Uttar Pradesh, which is among the worst performing larger states under the PMJAY.
As of today, 18,000 hospitals are empanelled under the PMJAY. Government plans to empanel 20,000 hospitals in 112 aspirational districts under PMJAY for which a budget of Rs.69,000 crore has been announced by Union finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman in the Budget Speech 2020.
