Q1:   Who issues permission for the manufacturing of Narcotic drugs?

Ans:  Excise and Taxation Department issues permission on Form 24 to the manufacturer on the recommendation of the State Drugs Controller of the concerned State.
(No licence, only permission)

Q2:   Who issues permission to the chemist shops for the sale of Narcotic drugs?

Ans:  Excise and Taxation Department issues permission on Form 25 to the chemist shop on the recommendation of the State Drugs Controller of the concerned State.

Q3:   What is the status of Tramadol?

Ans:  Tramadol comes under the NDPS Act as a psychotropic substance w.e.f. April 26, 2018.

Q4:   What is the status of the combination of Buprenorphine + Naloxone sublingual tablets?

Ans:  This combination is covered under the NDPS Act, official in USP 2018.

This preparation can be supplied to psychiatric clinics and hospitals in addition to de-addiction centres as per the latest DCG(I)’s letter dated 28.03.2019.

Q5:   What is the status of Tapentadol?

Ans: Tapentadol is Schedule H1 Drug w.e.f. 7 April 2021 and not falls under NDPS Act.

Q6:  What is the status of Ketamine drug?

Ans: Ketamine is classified as a Schedule X drug on November 7, 2013. This drug has also been categorized as a psychotropic substance since February 10, 2011.

Q7:  What is the status of Codeine syrup?

Ans: Codeine Syrup is Shudule H1 Drug and to be sold under valid drug license and exempted from NDPS Act, if manufactured and sale under valid Drug license. No need to be labelled as NRx.

Q8:   Whether the nursing home require a license for stocking of Narcotic drugs?

Ans: Yes, there is a RMI (Registered Medical Institute) certificate for hospitals issued by the State Drugs Controller of the concerned State for which six drugs have been notified.

Q9:  What is the status of Pseudoephedrine?

Ans: Pseudoephedrine is controlled substance under NDPS Act.
