Extension of approval

The Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) has announced the extension of the approval of existing pharmacy courses for the 2023-24 academic year in the interest of students and to maintain the academic session’s timeline.

The PCI has also provided seven additional days to institutions that have applied for new pharmacy courses and a rise in admission to submit the required documents.

Incomplete documents will lead to the rejection of applications that fail to submit documents within the given time.

Approval Process and Extension of Existing Pharmacy Courses

The PCI opened its portal on February 3, 2023, and began the approval process for existing institutions for the continuation of pharmacy courses, the introduction of new pharmacy courses, and an increase in admission seats.

The final date of submission of applications was initially notified as February 20, 2023, but has since been extended to February 27, 2023.

The Executive Committee of the PCI held a meeting on March 5, 2023, and decided to extend the approval of existing pharmacy courses for the 2023-24 academic session.

The approval applies to institutions approved by the PCI, as per approved pharmacy courses and intake in 2022-23.

The inspection for these pharmacy courses will be conducted by the PCI throughout the year, and the outcome will decide the 2024-25 academic session’s fate.

New Course and Admission Rise Applications

For applications for new pharmacy courses and admission rises, the PCI will conduct an inspection of the statutory documents submitted.

Institutions with incomplete documents will have seven days to submit the required documents.

Failure to do so will lead to the rejection of the application for new pharmacy courses and admission rises.

Institutions Looking for Approval

The PCI portal provides facilities for institutions to submit applications for the following courses under the relevant Acts:

  • Diploma in Pharmacy (D Pharm) course,
  • Bachelor of Pharmacy (B Pharm) course,
  • Master of Pharmacy (M Pharm) course.

Institutions that want to change the name of the institution or trust, change the address or location of the institution, change the examining authority, hospital, or close down the course of the institution have to apply within the given timeframe.

Requirements for Approval

Institutions applying for approval for new pharmacy courses by existing institutions must apply on the portal, along with requisite Pharmacy Education Regulatory Charges (non-refundable), along with Goods and Services Tax (GST), and submit specific documents mandatorily at the time of application for consideration.

The PCI has decided not to charge the security deposit from the pharmacy institutions for the academic year 2023-24 and to reduce the Pharmacy Education Regulatory Charges (PERC) for pharmacy courses for new and existing instructions significantly.
