Drug Inspectors

Tamil Nadu’s drug control department is gearing up for strengthening as the state’s Drug Control Department is ready to welcome 18 new Drug Inspectors within the next month.

This significant move by Tamil Nadu aims to strengthen enforcement activities across the state and ensure the quality and safety of drugs reaching the public.

Filling the Posts:

The Tamil Nadu government is actively working towards filling the vacant posts to its full sanctioned strength of 146 drug inspectors in the state.

Following the upcoming 18 new drug inspectors in May, another 8 are expected to join the posts in June.

Currently, the drug control department is working with a dedicated team of 120 drug inspectors who diligently enforce the law in the state.

The Tamil Nadu Medical Services Recruitment Board (TN MSRB), has completed the recruitment process, with the selection list being published last month.

The online certificate verification process is currently going on, clearing the way for the new drug inspectors to join their posts.

Addressing Vacancies and Enhancing Efficiency

While the department had initially requested 26 inspectors to fill existing vacancies, the government has sanctioned the immediate appointment of 18.

MN Sridhar, the Director of the drug control department in Tamil Nadu, assured that the remaining 8 vacancies are going to be filled shortly.

Training for New Drugs Inspectors

The new drug inspectors will further proceed for a rigorous one-month training program designed to equip them with the required knowledge and skills for effective enforcement in the state.

Furthermore, the new drug inspectors will also receive special training in the industries to effectively monitor the operations within pharmaceutical manufacturing units with respect to Schedule M and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP).

Furthermore, with around 7,000 pharmaceutical wholesalers operating across Tamil Nadu, an additional 35 senior drug inspectors would be necessary solely for monitoring their operations.

Around 10 dedicated drug inspectors are required to look after the approx. 200 cosmetics manufacturing units in the state.
