Schedule H Drugs
The Chandigarh administration is launching a new digital portal for medical stores to report their stock of Schedule H drugs in their possession, thereby increasing transparency and accountability in the retail drug sector.
These precautionary measures will ensure the safety of citizens’ health and a drug-free environment within the Union Territory.
Drug Monitoring with Digital Portal
In its quest to curb drug abuse, the Chandigarh administration is planning a new drug-related online portal.
According to Deputy Commissioner Nishant Kumar Yadav, all medical stores in Chandigarh will now have to report the inventory of Schedule H drugs (controlled substances) and real-time stock through this online portal.
This was decided in NCORD’s meeting held yesterday, and this will allow real-time tracking of drugs to see what is there and how many; this intervention is required to ensure that these drugs are not diverted for unauthorized usage.
Inspections with SDMs
For ease of implementation and enforcement, the Deputy Commissioner ordered all Sub-Divisional Magistrates (SDMs) to ensure at least three surprise checks of all medical stores in their areas of responsibility each month, with drug inspectors assessing compliance with policies in place for the sale of drugs.
CCTV in Medical Stores
Another major decision taken in the meeting was that all medical stores in Chandigarh would have functional CCTV cameras strategically placed to cover all angles inside and outside the medical stores with proper backup storage of recordings for at least 30 days.
This “medical store surveillance” will help the drug control authority keep medical stores accountable in case of any malpractice or illegality, as those medical stores found without CCTV or unavailable footage will be liable for very stringent punishment as per law.
Those who do not comply with this strictly mandatory enforcement will also be liable to face punishment as per law.
