The national executive committee of the Indian Pharmacy Graduates Association (IPGA) has unanimously elected G Koteshwar Rao, president of the Telangana state branch of the IPGA as the zonal coordinator of the association for south India.
Rao was the founder secretary of the Telangana Drugs Control Officers Association (TDCOA) and was working with the vigilance cell of the drugs control department under the government of Andhra Pradesh until five years ago.
Considering his services for the organization, Rao has been given responsibility to coordinate and strengthen the various activities of the graduate pharmacists body in five states and one union territory. With his determined efforts, state branches for the association have been formed in Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Pondicherry.
Koteshwar Rao said the central committee has appreciated his organization work and as a token of recognition he has been given the new responsibility. He said the membership of the association will be increased by absorbing the Pharm D graduates also.

IPGA is the lone registered association for graduate pharmacists in the country and it has branches in all the states. Until a few years ago, the association’s activities were confined only in Delhi and in some north Indian states. The national president of the association is Dr. Atul Nasa, Drugs Controller of Delhi state. IPGA gives membership to B Pharm, M Pharm and Pharm D holders.

Dr. Atul Nasa said IPGA has plans to strengthen its activities in the north eastern states where state branches have been formed recently. The association will introduce some projects for the welfare of the pharmacist community in national level and it will benefit for the diploma pharmacists also.
The election was conducted through a web meeting in which office-bearers of all state units attended. The national EC meeting held on April 4 applauded the services and contributions of Rao in forming branches in six states. Apart from Dr. Atul Nasa, the national secretary Dr. Arun Garg and other EC members attended the online virtual meeting also congratulated him.
M Rajaratinam, secretary of IPGA Tamil Nadu state branch, said the association has six local chapters in the state and the TN branch is the strongest unit of the association in entire India.
