Punjab FDA gets 13 DCOs and 12 DAs, DCA proposes to create post of DDCs
Acting on the request of the state food and drugs administration (FDA), the government of Punjab has newly appointed 13 DCOs (Drugs Control Officers) and 12 DAs (Drug Analysts) in the drugs control administration (DCA) under the FDA.
Out of the 13 DCOs, 11 recruits joined duties last week and two are under process of joining, said Pardeep Kumar Mattu, Drugs Controller (Joint Commissioner FDA) of Punjab.

With this new appointment, the total number of DCOs has reached 60 which is the sanctioned number of drug inspectors under Punjab FDA.
The department was carrying out the enforcement activities covering 22 districts in the state with 47 drug inspectors until December last year.
The analytical division of the drugs control wing has got 12 new drug analysts also.

As per the official hierarchy in the DCA, there is no post of Deputy Drugs Controller (deputy commissioner FDA) in Punjab.
But the DC said he has requested the government to create two posts of DDCs in the DCA. The government of Punjab has re-designated the drug inspectors as drugs control officers and ADCs as Assistant Commissioners.
Currently, the department has only two assistant commissioners (ADCs).

Mattu said the department has sent a proposal to the government to increase the number of ADCs to 12 and create post of two Dy DCs.
“As per our present system, we have deficiency in hierarchy of officers. We hope that the government will consider our request and the human resources in the drugs control administration will increase to a saturation point soon,” he told.
