The Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) has warned of legal action including revocation of approval against the pharmacy institutions which fail to update the details of relieving or joining of faculty in their respective institutions through the online portal, which will be kept open throughout the year.

The decision would help the Council to get a true picture of teaching staff positions in the institutions.

The PCI has noticed that in certain cases, the teaching faculty has resigned from the institution, but is not relieved by the principal or the institution.

As a result, the faculty, though has joined another institution, is not able to update details in the faculty module of joining institution, and are still listed in the old institution, thereby not giving a true picture of teaching position.

Further, it has also noticed that the institutions are uploading the name of the faculty without their consent.

The Council, in a recent meeting deliberated the matter and decided to open a faculty portal throughout the year and link with the Standard Inspection Format (SIF).

The PCI portal for faculty and institutions will be open for the joining and relieving of the faculty and it will be linked with Aadhar and PAN Card.

“Every time instructions shall relieve/join the faculty through the portal when instructions appoint new faculty or relieving the old faculty.

If institutions fail, then legal action will be initiated under Pharmacy Act, 1948,” said the Council.

The Council will start the verification process by linking the Aadhar Card and PAN Card with the faculty portal and it is mandatory to all faculty members to update their Aadhar Card and PAN Card and Aadhar Card-linked mobile number on the PCI portal under faculty portal.

The faculty will be responsible for the legal action against furnishing wrong information on the portal.

“If any institution uses the name of any faculty on its portal without appointing them, or if the faculty left the institution but not relieved from the portal, the legal action may be initiated against the institution including their approval may be revoked under Pharmacy Act, 1948,” added the Council official.

It may be noted that the PCI has been taking various initiatives to ensure to regulate the mushrooming of pharmacy institutions and ensuring the interests of the students and the faculty by imposing a security deposit from the existing and new institutions so that even if the institution hits a financial trouble, the Council may be able to offer support to the faculty members.
