The Govt. of India has created a separate, dedicated, autonomous institution in the form of the Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission (IPC) to deal with matters relating to the timely publication of the Indian Pharmacopoeia (IP)

Indian Pharmacopoeia (IP) is the official book of standards for drugs included therein, in terms of the Second Schedule to the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, of 1940.

Drug dosages are given in the Indian Pharmacopoeia (IP). Let’s have a look:

Benzylpenicillin Sodium  The equivalent of 1.2 to 2.4 gm of benzylpenicillin daily, in 4 divided doses by IM or by slow iv or by infusion.
Betamethasone 0.5 to 05 mg daily in divided doses. 
Betamethasone Sod. Phosphate  The equivalent of 0.5 to 5 mg of Betamethasone daily, in divided doses. Acute adrenal insufficiency, by iv or IM inj., is the equivalent of 10 to 80 mg of Betamethasone daily in divided doses.
Bisacodyl 5 to 10 mg daily. 
Bismuth Subcarbonate 1 to 4 gm. 

Bleomycin Sulphate  By inj. The equivalent of 15 to 30 Units of Bleomycin weekly in divided doses.
Bromhexine HCl. 8 to 16 mg three to four times daily. 
Bromocriptine Mesylate The equivalent of 2.5 to 20 mg of Bromocriptine daily in divided doses. 
Bupivacaine HCl  By infiltration anaesthesia, the equivalent of 2 mg of anhydrous Bupivacaine Hcl per Kg body weight.
Buprenorphine HCl Sublingually, up to 400 mcg every 6 to 8 hrs.300 to 600 mcg every 6 to 8 hrs; IM or slow IV;
Busulphan2 to 4 mg dailyMaintenance dose, 0.5 to 2 mg daily. 
Caffeine 300 to 600 mg

Ceftazidime  1 to 2 gm, every 8 to 12 hrs, by IM or slow IV or IV infusion.
Cefuroxime Sodium 250 mg twice daily750 to 1.5 gm, every 6 to 8 hrs, by IM or IV or IV infusion.
Cephalexin 1 to 4 gm daily, in divided doses. 
Cephlorididine  1 to 4 gm daily, in divided doses, by iv, IM or deep sc inj.

Chloramphenicol Palmitate Adult, the equivalent of 1.5 to 3 gm of Chloramphenicol daily, in divided doses; for a child, the equivalent of 25 to 50 mg of Chloramphenicol per kg of body weight daily, in divided doses. 
Chloramphenicol Sodium Succinate  The equivalent of 3 to 4 gm of Chloramphenicol daily, in divided doses, by IV inj.
Cholecalciferol “Rickets; not more than 800 units daily.

Chlorpromazine HCl As antipsychotic, 75 to 300 mg daily, in divided doses; As antiemetic, 10 to 25 mg every 4 to 6 hrs.As an antipsychotic, by IM inj. 25 to 50 mg. As antiemetic, by deep im inj. 25 mg initially followed by 25 to 50 mg every 3 to 4 hrs until necessary.

Chorionic Gonadotrophin  By IM inj, 500 to 5000 units twice weekly or in accordance with the needs and response of the patient.

Dexamethasone Sodium Phosphate  In the treatment of adrenal insufficiency, by IM or slow IV or infusion, 0.5 to 10 mg. In shock, by IV inj, or infusion, 2 to 6 mg per kg body weight, repeated if necessary after 2 to 6 hrs. In cerebral oedema, by IV inj., 10 mg initially, then 4 mg by IM inj. every 6 hrs as required for 2 to 10 days.
Dextromethorphan HCl 10 to 30 mg every 4 to 8 hrs. 
Diazepam In anxiety states, 2 mg thrice daily, increased if necessary to 15 to 30 mg daily, in divided doses; in insomnia associated with anxiety, 5 to 15 mg at bedtimeBy IM or slow IV inj. 10 mg repeated if necessary after 4 hrs.

Folic Acid “In the treatment of megaloblastic anaemia associated with folic acid deficiency, 5 to 20 mg daily.

Fortified Benzathine Penicillin Inj.  To be determined by the Physician in accordance with the needs of the patient.
Frusemide In oedema, 20 to 40 mg daily; in oliguvria, 250 mg 4 to 6 times daily;By IM or slow IV inj. 20 to 50 mg
Furazolidone 400 mg daily, in divided doses. 
Fusidic Acid 500 mg to 1 gm every 8 hrs. 
Gentamicin Sulphate  By IM or slow IV inj. over at least 3 minutes or by iv infusion, 2 to 5 mg per kg body weight daily, in divided doses.
Glibenclamide 5 mg daily, adjusted according to response; maximum 15 mg daily, after food. 
Griseofulvin 500 mg to 1 gm daily, in divided doses. 
Guaiphenesin “Adult: 200 to 400 mg every four hrs;
Child aged: 6 to 12 yrs, 100 to 200 mg every four hrs;
Child: 2 to 6 yrs, 50 to 100 mg every four hrs.”
Gugulipid 500 mg, equivalent to 25 mg of gugulsterones, thrice daily. 

Haloperidol 1.5 to 20 mg daily, in divided doses;By IM or IV inj. 2 to 10 mg.

Hyaluronidase  By sc or IM, inj. 1500 Units either mixed with the inj. fluid or injected into the site before inj. is administered.
Hydralazine HCl 25 to 50 mg twice daily;By slow IV inj. 5 to 20 mg over 20 minutes; may be repeated after about 30 minutes.
Hydrochlorothiazide 25 to 100 mg. 
Hydrocortisone Adrenocortical insufficiency, 20 to 30 mg daily, in divided doses;By IM inj. or by slow IV inj. or infusion, 100 to 500 mg, 3 to 4 times in 24 hrs or as required.
Hydrocortisone Acetate  By intra- articular inj. or local infiltration, 5 to 50 mg.
Hydrocortisone Hemisuccinate  By IV inj., the equivalent of 100 to 500 mg of Hydrocortisone 3 to 4 times in 24 hrs or as required.

Hydroxocobalamin  In the treatment of megaloblastic anaemia, by IM inj. 1 to 2 mg in divided doses, in the first week; subsequent doses, 250 mcg weekly until the blood count is normal; maintenance dose, 1 mg every two months.
Hydroxyprogesterone Hexanoate  By IM inj. 250 to 500 mg weekly during the first half of.
Hyoscine Butylbromide 20 mg four times daily;By IM or IV inj. 20 mg, repeated after 30 minutes if necessary.
Hyoscine HBr In the prevention of motion sickness, 300 mcg 30 minutes before commencing journey and repeated every 6 hrs;If required; by sc or IM inj. for pre-anaesthetic medication, 200 to 600 mcg.
Ibuprofen 600 mg to 1.2 gm daily, in divided doses, after food.
