New Dehi: After receiving reports of fake and spurious C-19 management drugs, the Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation (CDSCO) requested drug controllers to strictly monitor and investigate this fraudulent activity, informed Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Health Minister in Lok Sabha yesterday.

He informed that CDSCO and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) have taken various regulatory measures to ensure the quality of medicines distributed in the country.

Highlighting the achievement, he said, “There is a consistent decline in the prevalence of spurious samples from FY 2017 to FY 2021, Only 0.20% of drug samples has been declared spurious or adulterated in FY 2020-2021.”

Also, guidelines for taking action on samples of drugs declared spurious or not of standard quality in the light of enhanced penalties under the Drugs & Cosmetics (Amendment) Act, 2008 were forwarded to the State Drugs Controllers (SDC) for uniform implementation.

For quick identification of spurious drugs, the testing capacities of Central Drugs Testing Laboratories (CDTL) under the CDSCO are being constantly strengthened to expedite testing of drug samples in the country.
