Dr Krishna Ella, chairman & managing director, Bharat Biotech has given recognition to Gujarat Food and Drug Control Administration (FDCA) commissioner Dr H G Koshia for first batch of Covaxin from its Chiron Behring Vaccines facility in Ankleshwar, Gujarat.
Dr H G Koshia stated, “We have given fast track clearance for Covaxin facility which is important for the vaccine and also for our nation.”
Union health minister Mansukh Mandaviya inaugurated the Covaxin batches. Dr. Krishna Ella, chairman & managing director, Bharat Biotech and Suchitra Ella, joint managing director, Bharat Biotech were also present at the launch.
Dr. Krishna Ella, chairman & managing director, Bharat Biotech, said, “Gujarat FDCA has given the license within one hour for our Gujarat facility. Our goal to develop a vaccine with global safety and efficacy standards has been achieved, we are now marching towards the goal of annualized capacity of ~1.0 billion doses.”
The addition of Chiron Behring, Ankleshwar will further augment its Covaxin production capacity. Chiron Behring Vaccines is a wholly owned subsidiary of Bharat Biotech.
Suchitra Ella, joint managing director, Bharat Biotech, said, “I am happy to share that our efforts over the last one year have fructified, and we are now several steps closer to achieving our goal of providing Covaxin to all pockets of the country and overseas.”
Bharat Biotech is also exploring manufacturing partnerships with its partners in other countries, who have prior expertise with commercial scale manufacturing of inactivated viral vaccines under biosafety containment for further augmentation.
Gujarat FDCA makes optimum use of information technology for achieving excellence in performance. FDCA, Gujarat is the first State to initiate online software for sales and manufacturing licenses. Gujarat currently has 33 per cent of the aggregate share of the pharmaceutical industry.
