Rajasthan is starting an eight-day campaign against the menace of counterfeit and substandard medicines.
Starting from February 11th and concluding on February 17th, the state’s drug department will rigorously inspect pharmacies and medical stores across the state of Rajasthan to ensure the safety of the people of Rajasthan.
The Campaign:
This proactive move of the Rajasthan drug department comes after the various investigations that uncovered instances of counterfeit and substandard drugs being sold at numerous pharmacies and medical stores.
The drug department has issued strict directives to its drug control officers stating that they conduct thorough and detailed inspections of all pharmacies and medical stores across the state.
These inspections will include:
Scrutinizing sales records and a detailed review of all the records pertaining to the sale and purchase will be done to identify any counterfeit or suspicious patterns or any other discrepancies.
Drug Control Officers will collect samples of various drugs for testing and analysis from the designated government laboratories to ensure the quality of the drugs.
Drug control officers are also directed to submit a daily detailed report to the drug department headquarters regarding the activities they have done to ensure transparency and accountability during the campaign.
Recent Findings
The drug department’s recent investigations have pointed out the concerning results regarding the presence of counterfeit or spurious drugs in the market.
Between January 16th and 31st, it was observed that a total of 14 drugs were found to be of substandard quality with respect to various standards for these drugs.
The drug department has issued urgent directives to ensure the immediate withdrawal of these substandard drugs from the market to prevent further harm to public health.
