Blood trafficking
Following a recent blood trafficking incident in Rajasthan, the drug department has cancelled the licenses of two blood (banks) centres.
This cancellation has been done just after the action of the Jaipur Rural Police, who have busted a criminal racket involved in the illegal transportation of blood.
Illegal Blood Trafficking
On Monday, authorities intercepted a vehicle found transporting 255 units of blood.
This illegal transport was done from Makrana in Didwana-Kuchaman district to Sawai Madhopur under unhiegenic and bad cold storage conditions
Five persons have been arrested in this connection with this illegal act of transportation of blood.
The manager of the blood centre in Makrana and the president of the blood centre in Sawai Madhopur were among the arrested people.
Doctor’s Dual Role
Investigations revealed that Dr. Tapender Kumar Choudhary is an employee of the government in Sawai Madhopur and he is found working at the Mahadevi Blood Centre in the same district simultaneously.
This significant conflict of interest has raised serious concerns about doing jobs at two different places at a time.
A formal letter has been sent to the registrar of the Rajasthan Medical Council and the Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) of Sawai Madhopur district regarding this incident.
There will be an action initiated regarding the disciplinary proceedings against Dr. Choudhary.
Ensuring Blood Safety
The illegal blood trafficking is the biggest issue of serious health threat to the public.
Improper storage and transportation can significantly increase the risk of blood contamination with some other infectious diseases.
This act of illegal transportation of blood without maintaining the stoarge conditions just for the huge in the blood centre system is a grave ethical violation.
