Tramadol

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) in Hyderabad has taken action against a pharma company regarding the illegal Tramadol exports and attached immovable properties worth ₹5.67 crore.

This action has been taken during an ongoing investigation at M/s Lucent Drugs Pvt. Ltd., which is suspected of illicitly exporting the Tramadol to countries including Pakistan.

Illegal Tramadol Trade

The ED’s investigation has revealed that Lucent Drugs, a pharma company involved in the manufacturing and export of Tramadol, allegedly supplied the drug to countries including Pakistan.

The ED has attached the assets that belong to Lucent Drugs, which include land, buildings, and factory premises situated in Sangareddy district, Telangana.

This action has been taken under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), 2002.

Illegal Re-Exports

This investigation has been started after a complaint filed by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), Bangalore Zonal Unit, under Section 36A of the NDPS Act, 1985.

This complaint disclosed the various contraventions related to psychotropic substances by means of the illegal export of Tramadol from India.

The said case also revealed the allegations of forged records and documents related to the export authorizations.

An ED officer disclosed that Lucent Drugs initially obtained a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Central Bureau of Narcotics for the purpose of exporting Tramadol to Pakistan.

However, subsequent NOC applications for similar exports of Tramadol were refused.

Despite these refusals, the company is accused of illegal re-exports.

The Illegal Operation

Lucent Drugs allegedly re-exported 13,800 kg of Tramadol (approx. value ₹4.12 crore), to Pakistan through a Denmark-based company, M/s CHR Olesen Pharmaceuticals.

The company is also suspected of exporting 5,000 kg of Tramadol (approx. value ₹1.33 crore), through a Malaysia-based company, M/s SM Biomed.

These illicit exports of Tramadol generated proceeds of crime (POC) of approx. value ₹5.46 crore and this amount was deposited into the bank accounts of the company.
