New prices of Coronary Stents in India effective from April 2025

The National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA), under the Department of Pharmaceuticals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, has revised the ceiling prices of coronary stents, and they will come into force with effect from April 1, 2025.

NPPA has issued a notification vide S.O. 1473(E) dated 27-03-2025, which reflects an increase of 1.74028% for the year 2024 as compared to 2023 based on the Wholesale Price Index (WPI)

The revised ceiling prices, exclusive of Goods and Services Tax (GST), will apply to two categories of coronary stents listed under Schedule-I of the Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013 (DPCO, 2013).

The revised ceiling prices are as under:

• Bare Metal Stents: Rs. 10,692.69 per unit
• Drug Eluting Stents (DES): Rs. 38,933.14 per unit
  (including metallic DES, Bioresorbable Vascular Scaffold (BVS), and biodegradable stents)

This revision follows a series of notifications previously issued by the NPPA since 2018 mentioned below:

• Notification S.O. 639(E) dated 12-02-2018,
• Notification S.O. 1605(E) dated 03-04-2024.

Various Provisions:

For manufacturers or importers

Manufacturers or importers may increase their maximum retail price (MRP) based on the WPI increase of 1.74028%, as per Paragraphs 16(2) and 13(2) of DPCO, 2013.

GST can be added to the MRP as per the conditions laid down in the regulations.

For retailers and dealers:

Retailers and dealers must display the price list in a prominent place at their establishments, as per Paragraph 24(4) of DPCO, 2013.
