Seals of Assurance: FSSAI Logo and License Number on Food Labels

In the realm of food safety and standards, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) plays a pivotal role.
To enhance consumer confidence and ensure adherence to regulatory standards, the following guidelines dictate the display of FSSAI logos and license numbers on food labels.
1. FSSAI Logo and License Number Display
(a) On the Food Package:
- The FSSAI logo and license number, issued under the Food Safety and Standards Act, must be prominently displayed on the label of the food package.
- The contrast colour to the background ensures visibility.
(b) Brand Owner and Manufacturer/Marketer/Packer/Bottler:
- The FSSAI logo and license number of the brand owner must be displayed on the label.
- Additionally, if the manufacturer, marketer, packer, or bottler has a different license number, it should also be included on the label.
- This dual display ensures accountability and traceability.
(c) Imported Food Products:
- For imported food products, the importer is required to showcase the FSSAI logo and license number along with their name and address.
- This ensures that even products entering the Indian market from abroad adhere to FSSAI standards.
(d) On Premises of Food Business Operators:
- Every food business operator must display their Registration/License No. prominently at all premises where food is stored, processed, distributed, or sold.
- This includes the display of a Food Safety Display Board if specified by the Food Authority, along with other relevant information.
(e) Fortified and Organic Foods:
- Fortified and organic foods carry an additional responsibility.
- They must be marked with logos as specified in Schedule II of the regulations. The FSSAI retains the authority to introduce logos for any other food categories as deemed necessary.
